Hi folks,

So it's time to renew Comcast. On May 7th, my $29.99 ($40.99 OTD) promo price for 100 Mbps internet will expire. On May 8th this will increase to $69.95 ($80.95ish OTD). Of course I just called Comcast asking them what other promos are available, I get told that I can get $44.99 ($55.99ish OTD) and that's the best they can do. I've been through this with them before so I tell her that, that's not going to work and that I'd like to be transferred to Customer Retention. For those of you that don't know how Comcast works, CR is the only department that can really get you good deals. I was not expecting what followed...

"Actually, I am able to see the best rates for you and I am also able to terminate your plan if that's what you choose, I won't be able to transfer you to Customer Retention due to this ability."

She follows, "If you'd like to accept that offer now we can enroll you OR you can call back after the term has expired and see what options are available."

I of course ask her if she can tell me what the promotions will be once I'm no longer in the promotional rate, she of course doesn't have that information and it won't be available until the promotional term has ended.

So here's the deal folks, my only other option is ATT and their best internet is 50 Mbps at $40 plus taxes/fees. So, do I go ahead and just take the easy route and agree to the promo she offered or take my chances and let the plan expire.

Do you only get internet service from Comcast, or do you also have their TV and/or home phone service? If it's internet alone, then $45 for 100 Mbps isn't horrible, IMO.

FYI, I'm paying $30 for 50 Mbps link from ATT, and that's only because I also have their TV and phone service.

Yes, we're only internet. $45 for 100 Mbps definitely isn't a bad price, and I honestly can't really complain about Comcast's internet service. They definitely have their screw ups, but their internet is leaps and bounds better than their customer service.

We cut the cord two or three years ago and I doubt will ever go back to a traditional cable set-up. Between Hulu, Netflix, Prime and HBO Now we really don't miss out on too much.

That's because for most people, they do. I'm included in that bunch. In my area I can choose between either ATT or Comcast for internet.

You tell her to go ahead and cancel when the promo is up. Then call back talk to retention and tell them you canceled and see what they can do for you. Sometimes it works.

At least they offered you a cheaper deal. You call Spectrum they will be like no deals for you and they will just let you cancel.

You should take a look at Trim. Trim

They negotiate your bill and keep 25% of any savings they get for you by charging your credit card.

I went from $100/mth to $70mth. They charged me 3mth x $30= $90, but I didn't have to pick up the phone to argue with the dimwits at Comcast.

I'd have to buy a DSL modem if I switched to AT&T. I've already got $130 into my cable modem. Comcast for me is 65Mbps down for $40/month, but that's just a promo. I'll be in your shoes in a month or two; not looking forward to it.

You got that right. I don't play their games and would let it expire.

My 1 year comcast promo expires like may 15th.

I have 25mbps down for $19.99

I called and said that my promo is expiring and talked to retention dept. I told her I wanted the same price. She surprisingly didn't try and push me at all.

She just said "since you are still in promotion there are no promos showing up on my screen, call back after the promo expires."

Roger that.

Wow, I'd almost make a deal with the devil to get those rates, especially for 100mbs. I pay $88 per month for 15 mbs, on DSL no less. This is what happens when there is no competition. We are at the mercy of the providers. Either pay or do without. We'll be discontinuing our DirecTV this November and will be cable free. I've just had it with the constant, ongoing increases in our cable bill.

I'll be taking the easy way out and just settling with this new promo. Would rather not deal with the headache of letting my current promo expire, etc. This is year 5 with Comcast so I now how that can go. Some of the prices y'all are paying are crazy, definitely is putting some perspective to my situation!
