2000 Impala that I've owned since brand new. It has 77,xxx miles on it and it has never had the filter or ATF changed in it. I was thinking of using Castrol Dex VI, but a lot of people on the board like Valvoline Maxlife. I'm having a hard time choosing...
The car does seem some spirited driving. WOT at times. Which one do you think is a better choice?

Price - Castrol = $5qt, Maxlife = $11gallon

Is the Dexron VI bacward compatible to your OE spec?

I beleive your tranny spces Dexron III. MaxLife meets your OE spec, then use it, especially for the price. You can do twice the changes in your tranny for half the cost of the Castrol DexVI and really get some new ATF in your tranny.

The MaxLife is a synthetic according to Valvolines web site.

Like Char Baby says, all your 2000 model year 4T65E needs is a Dexron/Mercon universal ATF. Maxlife and Castrol ATF do cover that spec.

Thing is, I'm not sure there's a big price difference between (what used to be cheap) Dex/Merc and something like Maxlife ATF!
