Think I can use an oil pump to pump out my oil?

I've decided I want to be able to change my oil through the dip stick tube, although I don't really want to spend ~$60 on an oil extractor. I would like to try an make my own. Do you guys think I could use an oil pump out of an engine? I don't really know much about the oiling system of an automotive engine, so I don't really know if it would work or not. I was looking at a SBC pump on ebay...would I be able to spin it with an electric drill? Would it be able to suck oil through a tube long and small enough to go down my dipstick tube?

An automotive oil pump is unlikely to be able to develop enough suction to suck oil up two feet of small diameter hose.
