  • Oregon with 261 deaths, a 51% increase
  • South Dakota with 65 deaths, a 51% increase
  • Minnesota with 211 deaths, a 41% increase
  • Idaho with 107 deaths, a 39% increase
  • Nevada with 181 deaths, a 38% increase
  • Utah with 150 deaths, a 36% increase
  • Vermont with 28 deaths, a 33% increase
  • Tennessee with 682 deaths, a 30% increase
At least half of these states have seen healthy population growth- so that may be a factor in different scenarios.

There are a lot more people on the roads who are taking unnecessary risks, or driving as if they're completely lost and / or blind, or have no idea that there are rules that govern the roads. Rarely do I drive to or from work and not witness something really bone-headed. It used to be somewhat rare to see someone just blatantly do whatever they feel like doing, but now it's every day.

saw one driver just cut off a another, pulling out from a side road. I noted the make & color, weeks later I see the same auto, puffing smoke.
Smelling the results, it seems she dumped diesel in the tank of a hyundai hatchback of some sort. Pretty sure those aren't compression ignition engines. She's off the road, I luv Carma.

Weed and cell phones??

Numbers without context are just numbers.
A state with 1 death for the base year and 5 deaths then next is 500% increase. And both years could have only 1 accident each year.
Correct me if I am wrong, but don't of those states have low population?
Additionally, 8 states out of 50 is 16% of the states. That means 43 states out of 50, or 84% had less than 30% increase.

Regardless, the trend is scary, not good...

Compare to last year, when nobody was driving? You could play soccer on 80% of the residential streets.

One thing I know was that a lot of my coworkers were doing meetings while driving. Work from home isn't always from home in 2021.
I dont remember what state(s) were involved but I read 16 year olds could get a license with just their parent/guardian approval during the virus lockdown times, no test whatsoever, absolute lunacy. Talk about asking for trouble.
My coworker got the test last year, 3rd time test and finally passed. The standard was definitely lowered and there were no cars on the road and it was very easy.

I had a cop, not on lights and siren, turn in front of me when i had the green light to go straight. he looked right at me when he did it, brakes never applied harder.

Texas still is winning numerically (not via percentage)

Years ago there was a town on a highway with a speed change mid giant hill

had an apparently undercover cop on a side street roll a stop look at me and drive slowly across the street cutting me off

I only braked enough not to smack him

I then got pulled over a block later saying I almost hit the sheriff and was speeding then got a ticket.

One of the only times I’ve been ticketed

Those two playing that game of chicken makes me hope someone smacked him good.

There was no reason for him to pull out, let alone run a stop sign.

That's why dashcam is important.

! hope he was on one important call. seems 1% are doing this. Don't get me started on the stale yellow (red) light runners. everywhere.

I'm not so sure road tests are really that effective at making us all safer. I think if most of us were honest, we would admit that we're all on our best behavior with a driving proctor in the car, so what is the point? Yes, it can weed out the truly incompetent, but a baboon could've passed the driving test I took, and I proceeded to get three speeding tickets in the 2 years following. Finding a way to disable the driver's phone while in motion would better serve the driving public.
