I'm forever grateful to Waffle House in SC for saving my life on one of my spontaneous vehicular adventures.
I've driven by them 100s of times while on the road but have never stopped. Maybe I should some day.
I haven't been to a waffle house since the pandemic - but I will make a point to go while I am off during the holiday. Thanks for the reminder.
There are definitely some that are better than others. The quality varies a lot. Possibly just the cook or time of day?

We have two in our town. I prefer Huddle House. Better food and cheaper.
IHOP.
Maybe its better where you are. Its not even food here. Last time I was there was probably 20 years ago admittedly. It was that bad - and I tried more than once.

Never been to a Waffle House. Really want to go.
West Virginia has a chain called Tudors BISCUIT WORLD, which is why they only have a few Waffle Houses.

In Ga on I85, there’s at least 4 Waffle Houses on every major exit ramp so they have every direction covered. Between midnight and 06:00 all those Waffle Houses are SRO. I’ll have a crisp pecan waffle and a double order of scattered and smothered hash browns….please. 
The first time I ever seen or heard of grits was at the Waffle House down south. I think the state was Kentucky but I can't remember for sure. Only been in the establishment one time but they sure have a sign you can't miss when on the road.
If true, I wonder how many got fired at 19 years...
I heard they were having trouble duplicating that feat in all their stores.
My boys absolutely love Waffle House. We go with them once in a while. Like others have said, it can range from really good, to horrendous, you just never know.
There is a Greek family that owns a couple of breakfast/lunch places in the Charlotte area (have a bakery on the premises as well) called "Stacks." If you're ever in the area (they have 2 or 3 in Charlotte now) highy recommended.

Not only is it horrible food....it is expensive as well
