The first 5w40 viscosity???

Hi !

I just wanted to know by curiosity which oil was the first 5w40 ever! According to my Research Veedol in Germany offered a 5w40 back in 1979. Also I have 2 cans in my Collection from CANADA which are round tin API SE rated MOTOMASTER 5w40s, I guess they are from the late 70s! Does anybody know of some other 5w40 oils back in the 70s???

The first time I saw 5w40 on the shelf was late eighties at Western Auto. It was Havoline, it struck me as unusual cause never seen that viscosity, hence I remember till this day.

I remember 5W-50 Castrol syntec... In fact, I think I still have a bottle!

I thought Mobil came out with Delvac 1 5W-40 in 1978, claims to be the first synthetic HDEO?
