I saw a vintage fram oil filter on-line. It was a cartridge type filter. The box read "Your dipstick says it all. If your oil appears dirty, change it". Had to laugh!

Strangely enough.....my oil always looks the dirtiest AFTER I top off the oil.....now does that make sense....? Granted, my car doesn't use that much oil......usually only need to add about 1/2 quart, at the 3000 mile mark....lol. Which, some will tell me, "OMG That's too long on an 88!" - still waiting on my UOA from WIX/NAPA
Curious how the UOA looks.....taken at 3k...BEFORE adding the top off oil, obviously.....so it took about a full quart to fill, due to the sample oil I extracted through the dipstick...
But yea, after I ran the car a couple days, the only actually looked "darker" on the rag after I topped it off

Define looking dirty? If I followed this I would need to change my oil every week. Nice marketing job Fram.

Keep the oil and change the dipstick.

My Father said that when Non-Detergent motor oils were the norm, they didn't darken quickly. So if it's a vintage filter, the statement may be valid if it was referencing things 50 or so years ago.

And remember that oil changes years ago were as often as 600 miles ['30s]

Funny my 88 Aries specs 3k OCIs, but change the filter "every other" oil change......and this is an easy one to change too....right in the open, on the side of the engine.....pop the hood and it's sitting right in front of you hehe.
Pain in the butt taking it off though, cause it dribbles all down the chassis, that's the worst part really.....so gotta spray down the engine/filter area afterwards.....
