Tonight, while at my local grocery store, I found 10w-30 Chevron synthetic for $3.49/quart! Badda bing

Just wondering if there's any way to tell how old it is. It's labeled as made by chevrontexaco, not equilon. Did Equilon even make chevron products at all?

No. Equilon was an arm of Shell and they produced Havoline oil when Shell owned the rights to that brand. Chevron has always made their own oils.

Equilon was a joint venture of Shell and Texaco, from 1998 to 2001, prior to the Chevron-Texaco merger. The Havoline brand of Texaco lubricants, was distributed/marketed thru Equilon during this relatively short 3 year period.

If any Havoline product with an Equilon label is still sitting on the shelf, it’s at least 3 yrs old.

BTW, Drew, let us know if the Chevron Synthetic 10W-30 creates any engine noise issues.

LOL, Haley, not being critical here. Drew made the comment in a thread from last month that the Chevron Synthetic 10W-30 produced some engine noise in his Dad's vehicle, so he was looking at other oils for the upcoming cold weather.

Chevron Grp III at $3.49 is a good price!

Why do you ask that question? I tried the Havoline Synthetic only once and I didn't give it a fair chance, I'm sure. It seemed as though I was getting some pinging I never had before or since. I'm not knocking it, it was just a perception at the time and maybe an incorrect one.
