Not exactly. More like a "falsely used" test. Note that generally the people who argue most that the test has relevance to an ICE are the ones who also argue most for a particular brand that does well in the test.

The four-ball wear test is a test for comparing lubricant formulations in the lab and has no real predictive powers that can be extended to in-service wear of mechanical driveline components. I thought we had clarified this point many moons ago. shocked2 BTW, different tests on different steel combinations may give ambiguous results. Four-Ball Wear test
