The 2014 F-150....

Hopefully they would have better sense than that. I don't think an AWD system would last very long on a pickup that's truly utilized as a pickup. A vigorous off-road adventure or a little rock climbing would fry a clutchpack or two on a Haldex-type system, if that's what they used. Anyone know what type system was used in the last Denali AWD?

The maker might get around that by making the body like a 1997 F150 on steriods, and making it as low in profile as an El Camino.

Longitudinal RWD and AWD is not as efficient as transverse FWD and AWD. Maybe the F150 will recieve FWD, and an option will be an AWD system that resembles a Honda CRV or Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.

Do they make an FWD tranny that will handle that style of use and the torque produced by a large V8 while towing 8,000+lbs? I doubt it......

The Denali AWD system uses a Borg Warner full time Tcase with only a chain & gearset. No clutches. The tcase is bullet proof but the system eats front differentials at an alarming rate. Mine went bad and GM wouldn't replace it under warranty because even though the gear oil was jet black and loaded with metal at 10,000 and 30,000 changes the gearset had not failed.

by 40k the noise started. I traded it in on a Toyota and is just another reason I won't go back to GM.

I only stated that a transverse AWD drivetrain would be added because the technology may now exist to toughen it up.

Just look at all the advances over the last 25 years making transverse drivetrains more capable.

And think about the people taking a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX, or Eagle Talon TSi, getting 400HP, and then rally racing them.

I think more of the guys with the 1000lb-ft diesel pick-ups at the truck pulls.... Now THAT is stress on a 4WD drivetrain.
