Noticed a small sheet metal screw in the RR tire yesterday. Well these Pilot PS4S ain't cheap and still had life at 35K. I knew I had no choice so off to Costco to order new rubber. I chose the Pilot Sport All Seasons this time, for about $80 less per tire. Not sure if I'm happy with this decision. Anyways it will be at least 4 days for the new tires and the tire was losing air. A plug will do for now. GS350 will not be used much until installation.

Bummer. Funny we use to rope patch that area just like you did and the tires would live out their life. Once the inside patches became popular they would no longer mold to the contour of that area and required new tires….

This is the way... Now give yourself time to forget about it until the tires wear out. That's what's happened to me every time I've plugged on the edge like that. Guilt, Forgetfulness, no issues for life of tire.

Edit: I see you already ordered new tires.. I was assuming you'd be like me and let it ride. haha
Pretty close to the sidewall. This car is a ton of fun and can get you into trouble. Wifey drives it a lot as well as friends. Safety first. Lend a poor boy some scratch?

The tread depth looks pretty good to me. I had a 2014 Jeep GC and had about the same dilemma. I was able to find a used tire on Ebay with the exact same amount of tread depth and the exact brand and size in order to match the other 3 tires that were good. I was really worth buying the previously owned tire in my case. I actually bought 4 brand new ones and waited about a year and a half to install them since I had good luck with the previously owned tire.

Those tires look passable to me -- maybe 4/32 to 5/32" remaining? They'd probably meet Carmax standards for front-line ready. 🤭
Your vision is spot on; that's what I measured the backs at, as did the Costco tire jock. The fronts were a little better, which is typical for this car. That's why the replacement hurts. Actually, 35K for this soft compound ain't bad, so there's that.

If it rolls it's got good tread, right? All good.

Is the $1,300 mentioned in the title for 2 or 4 tires?
Costco, 4 Michelin Pilot Sport All Season, split sizes for 2013 GS350 F Sport. All in. PS4S would be about $320 more including the govenor's tax.

I also ordered 4 TPMS valve stems from Amazon @ $41 each.

PS4S and PSAS are not cheap. $1300 seems about right. A lot of people I read said the difference between one car vs another they test drove comes down to whether they were equipped with the PS4S or not instead of whether the car has better handling or not.

How many years since you got them?

Ya think? What's a poor boy to do?

Go to a mom and pop immigrant tire shop, and give them some cash to take the tire out to patch it from inside. Then again I probably would buy one used exact same tire off eBay to match the others. 4/32 and 5/32 still has quite a bit left for expensive tires like those.

4.5 years and 35K. That used tire would have worked, but I will just go ahead and put the new rubber on. Thanks Panda. All good.
Wifey uses this car and I loan it out... I want it to be 100%. There is no doubt the PS4S are amazing. The AS are pretty darn good too. I am tempted to run over to Costco and change my order. Loan a poor boy $300? Ha!
