A look at what the Soldiers had for Thanksgiving at FT Meade, SD in 1941. Of note the cigars and cigarettes.

thanks gon, these old holiday menus are gems. typically officers serve the enlisted troops on thanksgiving day, which are true feasts. my last mess-hall (now dfac) turkey dinner was at camp coiner, yongsan garrison, rok in 2011, minus the smokes.

I have lived in SD all my life and never heard of Ft Meade until I read this. I will have to check it out next time I go to Sturgis. I go to the Black Hills Corvette Classic almost every year and have drag raced in Sturgis. That menu has some awesome foods listed and I don't think anyone would walk away hungry from that meal. Seeing cigarettes and cigars listed is really going back in time.

JKC,

Here is the "battle roster" from the 1941 Thanksgiving meal at Ft Meade. Maybe some names you might recognize?

His buddies would have to be pushing 100 today. Just how old do you think JKC is? :ROFLMAO:
South Dakota is a smaller population state, and not a large state for immigrants from other states like Arizona, Texas, Florida, Colorado, etc. So, I would not be surprised if a name might trigger a memory.

Just a couple of weeks before 12/7/41…..! Can’t help but wonder how many of those heroes perished in WWll .:(
