Here is mine. In the 60's I used 10-30 dino a few years and then switched to 10-40 dino till about 73 when I switched to 10-50 dino. Then in about 88 I switched to 5-50 synthetic. After joining BITOG in 05 I switched to 5-30 synthetic and still use it unless I need to use 5-20 untill a warranty is up. I do use 5-40 synthetic HDMO in a 98 Jeep we have.

Hope we will not criticize but just report out histories.

78 Mustang 2, the 4 cyclinder used so much oil that I never changed it, just added about 1 quart every 2 days. I was using the SAE 30 recycled oil at Dollar General. It was $0.50 a quart and I was mad when they raised the price to $0.75. I was in high school after all.

84 Subaru GL-10, great little car. Used either Havoline or Pennzoil SAE 30

After that, I bought my first new car and used what the owner's manual stated on all our cars since then (5W-20, 5W-30, and 10W-30). Just recently started running the 0W-30 and going to move the Honda over to the 0W-20 soon.

I have never myself used anything over a 30 weight in any of my own cars.
GC 0w30 is probably the thickest oil I've used.
Probably ranges from PP 5w30 to GC 0w30. and some 10w30's in between :p

5W-30 in everything I have owned, with the odd fill of 10W-30 thrown in.

Callbay: What vehicles were your oil choices used in? Did you ever use that STP '15,000 mile' 10W-50?

Not much variety here. Since I've come here all I've bought is 5w30, recommended for all of my vehicles, untill this year as I now have 0w30 waiting for next changes. Other than that I may have used some 10w30 years ago but that would be it.

65 Shelby GT350 - Pennzoil GT20W-40

70 VW Beetle - Pennzoil 30W

Misc. British Sports Cars - Pennzoil GT20W-50

All American cars owned - Pennzoil 5W-30 both conventional and synthetic. I did use Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20 in my Grand Marquis while I had it.

I'm noticing a trend here....

Droll, any chance you hung onto the shelby?

Back in the day i used 10w40 or 20w50 ONLY i though anything "thinner" was no good and wouldn't protect.

I could only wish I had. It was a graduation gift from my Dad and I was young and stupid and basically run it in to the ground. If I knew then what I know now, I would of put it in storage and paid for my retirement today. It was certainly a Corvette killer.

It was white with the twin blue stripes running down the middle.

Thats awesome. I have a soft spot for mustangs especially shelbys. I'm sure you still had fun driving it into the ground. Anyway..back on topic

5w30 M1 in my ranger 3.0. 5w30 RP in my zx2 since 34k miles or so, just recently went to 5w20 in the car. It seems to like it just fine

I used everything from 5w30 to 20w50 on my first car, an 86 Honda Accord. Had an 85 BMW 325e, all 20w50, all the time. Since then, mostly 5w30 on the other cars that I have had and 5w20 on my last two Kias as stated on the oil cap.

When I first started driving I had a Toyota 4x4 pick-up (1986) I used Valvoline All-Climate 20W/50 as that is also what we used in my folk's 1985 Mercedes-Benz 300D-T. We bought it by the case and always had it on hand. I was pretty loyal to Valvoline and even continued to use their 20W/50 in the white bottles after they stopped calling it "All-Climate." More recently I've been using Toyota 5W/30 in my wife's car (my car is a company lease any all service is provided). I bought my first BMW motorcycle (first an Oilhead and then two Hexhead boxers) in 2003 and have used M1 15W/50 in those ever since. OEM filters always.

Back when my folks had a 1978 Winnebago, we'd use non-detergent 30Wt. Valvoline in the motorhomes Dodge 440 V8. Why non-detergent? I dunno...guess my dad thought it was the stuff...

89 s10 - mostly Pennzoil products. Ultra and Platinum 5-30. Got some Valvoline white bottle (VWB) 5-30 in it now with some ARX.

97 Beams 528i - Castrol Syntec 0-30. Before that it was 5/10-30.

2001 trooper - any oil that's on sale at the time. Usually 5/10-30

06 tundra - Kendall titanium forget the weight
