Tracking a salvage titled 2002 F350 for a about a week. Had a price in mind, I would go up to $7800. A little earlier the price jumped from $7200 (I has the high bidder) to $9500. Bid "war" between a person from NY and a person from OH.

The F350 has 180k miles, and is a recovered stolen truck. Spent its life titled in OR. No sign of gooseneck of fifth wheel on the bed. Weirs, the windshield wipers are missing. I know the 7.3L has a cult following, but for a salvage truck that more likely than not the bidders have not seen, I was thinking $8500 tops (before fees). Of note, the truck is located in Las Vegas.

What attracted me to the truck was no emissions. I would not be using the truck often, so I was thinking the no emissions diesel might be more reliable for my situation over a diesel with emissions.

A supplemental observation. If my eyes are correct, the truck has 20" tires. The 2002 only offered 16" tires. With 20" rims, the truck likely has spacers, not something I like for a truck meant for hauling/ towing.

Doesn’t look like that bad if a truck. A western truck with desert life means no rust but maybe bad paint. That one seems ok (I didn’t look at all the photos). $10k for a no emissions diesel in this market, if only 180k seems like a decent deal, assuming the trans is ok and the ac works….

At 10,100, the out the door is 11,200. One still has to transport it to NY, OH, etc. Shipping I would guess about $2000-2600. Since most shipments originate in NY, OH and go to LAs Vegas, the rate Las Vegas to NY, OH a more favorable route for the consumer out of Las Vegas than into Las Vegas.

That sounds like a lot.

When I bought my 85 190d, granted a small car, it was $700 to put it on a truck from TX to NJ…

TX to NJ considerably less than NJ to TX.

When I was transferred from Arizona to Pennsylvania about a decade ago, the Penke 26' truck rental was $900. Pennsylvania to Arizona for the same truck, same route was over $3,000.

How can you buy it when it's deleted? I'd never buy one that way.

I am surprised that nice tow hitch made it without disappearing from a salvage vehicle lot. As far as the price on the truck I would say it was about what it was worth. Not a steal by any means but bought right. I would not want wheel spacers on any vehicle however that would be an easy and inexpensive remedy to correct.

Probably 18" wheels. My 98 F150 has 17" wheels, so I'm sure they offered a wheel larger than that 4 years later.

The 7.3's go for stupid money all day long.
Yup. I'd love a 7.3 truck, drove one at a high school job and wanted one ever since, but just haven't been able to dedicate the time to finding a decent one from a rust free area. There was a rot box with over 300k miles here that sold for $11k. I stopped to look at it, just seeing that it was a 7.3, and a look underneath proved that the frame was swiss cheese. :(
