talked to the NULON tech, he claims that they use JAPANESE basestocks

read in the PENRITE handbook that they use KOREAN basestocks

would these suppliers be household names like MOBIL, or are us aussies just getting involved with small time outfits coz they're cheaper or will supply smallish quantities ?

Wouldn't say it's anything to worry about. Conoco, supplier of Motorcraft lubricants, also uses Korean base stocks and their products are excellent.

SK Energy in Korea is the largest producer of Group III base oils in the world, and they plan to double capacity over the next five years.

There aren't any "small time" producers of Group III or PAO stocks as the investment in the manufacturing plants is enormous. There are small time producers of esters, but selection of the right ester is more important than selection of the right supplier.

Nulon use Group 3 in their Synthetic oils. South Korea or Singapore would be where they get it from. Good range of oils, but the TBN are pretty low. The 15w50 Synth would be my pick.
