I've been using Syntech 5w-30 in my 2001 Pathfinder and now I'm starting to wonder about this GC I keep reading about on these forums. Does anybody have any opinions of one over the other? I'm also considering switching from 5w-30 to 10w-30 since we're now in full swing of summer her in FL. Any advice or suggestions?

The German 0w30 Syntec is in a league completely ahead of the US made 5w30 and 10w30 Syntec. It is simply a much more advanced oil, that passes much more stringent European specifications that the 5w30 and 10w30 can't pass.

And since the 0w30 is on the thick end of the 30wt range, and the other two viscosities are on the very low end, the 0w30 is actually a much better choice for the summer! And the 0w30 actually holds it's viscosity better than their 5w30 and 10w30. I've seen UOAs where 10w30 Syntec has thinned out to a 20wt, something that I feel just should not happen with a 10w30 synthetic, even if it uses a group 3 base oil.

Syntec is a good hydrocracked Group III oil. On the other hand, German Castrol (GC) is one of the best oils on the market that will give you low engine wear. In other words, GC has a more advanced base stock.

My GC even cleaned the house and had dinner ready when I get home from work, regular Syntec just complained and moaned all the time! J/K!

I've been looking for it here in San Antonio, Texas for a while now. Today I found ONE quart at an AutoWrong here on the north side of town. So I figured I'd run some M1 Truck and Suv, after going to 3 auto parts stores I broke down and went to WallMart where they had FOUR quarts. Great, I needed 5, so in went the GC with the M1.

You must have gotten the better GC... Mine just gets me home and gives me a Gin'n Tonix
