Hi,

I just wanted to give you a brief update.

I have been using 10W-40 Castrol Syntec in my 2005 Accord LX 4 Cyl Auto (Yes - I know it specs 5W-20 in the US). The car has been running great - a lot of highway driving at "spirited" speeds. Egnine works very well and I barely noticed any decrease in mileage. I really love this oil.

In my other car (2005 CRV LX Auto 4 Cyl) I have been trying Mobil 1 Synthetic Euro Formula 0W-40 and this engine (slightly different engine program from Accord)absolutely loves it.

At 5,000 miles both oils are still almost "new" yellow. I have been using Mobil 1 filters in both cars. No oil consumption whatsoever.

P.S.
Here is a "situation" I witnessed recently. At a local car shop father asked his teenage son if he had "rotated the tires on his car." (Because if he had not they might as well do it now.)

The teenager (dead serious and with puzzled look on his zitted face) answered while biting what looked like a Hershey's bar: "but I thought they rotate when I drive?".

There was a 20 minutes break as we were all crying our heads off laughing.

Frank, are you referring to the teenager's comments, or that some people feel that a 40 weight oil is appropriate for Honda engines?

Dangit..

Without any intention to turn this into another 5-20 vs. 10-30/40 thread, I would politely point out that the same engine gets (in addition to 5-20 recommendation for fuel economy)10-30 and 10-40 recommendations in Japan and Europe.

Everyone can use whatever the like.

As for the "future of America" - scary that kid isn't it? "I thought they rotate themselves." I am telling you - this kid is NOT headed for NASA advanced mechanics program

Heck...not all teenagers are equally ignorant about automotive maintenance...well, that is, they'll do as much as their superiors will allow.

At 15 years old, I bought a 1954 Ford F-100 truck with a broken frame, three different colored body parts, and the engine was contained in big wire baskets. Spent 6 months putting it all together. Kept it for 3 years getting it ready to be repainted/etc. My father made me sell it when I went off to college...he was too embarrassed to have me driving around in that old beater...but, man, I loved it, and learned so much from working on it all that time. I'm sure there are modern-day teenagers that are doing similar things, not all of them are idiots. I hope.

The kids father is the one responsible for raising the kid. Judging by his reaction to the kid not knowing what "rotate the tires" meant, it's easy to understand why the kid hasn't learned much from the old man. He sounds like a jerk.

A teenager not knowing what "rotate the tires means" is understandable, two adults standing around laughing about it for 20 minutes is a pathetic.

It really opens up the lines of communications between the kid and the parent.

Actually, there were about dosen or so people standing around laughing because it was - guess what? Funny. What is pathetic is your comment to it.

Kid looked at least 18yrs old and if by that time he had a license and did not know what rotating tires means then this is just plain ignorant. And even if he didn't know what rotating means, how in **** could he confuse it with driving?

Anywho - we all had a good laugh and the kid learned something. Maybe a bit hard way but sometimes that is the best way to learn.

XS I agree with you I dont think it should matter how old the kid is he is still his dad and I know my dad would never laugh at me for 20 minutes. laughing at someone for 20 minutes sounds like elementary school not like a few ADULTS standing around talking. I agree its funny and he should know what rotating his tires meant but that would not have provided 20 minutes of humor to any adult that I know. sounds like the adults are easily humored and might explain why the 18 yr old didnt know what they were talking about.
