Switching to high mileage full synth

Hello everyone
Got a 99 Suburban with 150K miles on it. Currently i run Semi synthetic in it. Thinking about switching to either Synthetic ML Valvoline or M1 high mileage.Started thinking about it when i read that M1 recommends that oil for higher mileage cars that have been running regular oil. Before i switch i wanted to know if anyone on here did the same thing and if they had any issues like leaks springing up or blow by? Thanks.

Does it leak? How many miles do you put on/year? It sounds like whatever you are doing is working well. Why change? Is it leaking? What oil have you been using? If you don't burn oil no need to change to a High Mileage oil. If you do Mobil 1 High Mileage would be my first choice Maxlife next. Or get whatever is on sale at the auto stores the month you change your oil.

Ive changed MANY of our vehicles at 150-200k miles and seldom have had a leak if in good repair. THe only situation where a leak formed was on a turbo drain gasket at about 215k miles on one of my diesels many years ago.

Some see some consumption, some see leaks. On things like oil cooler hoses, there may be weeping, but that may have been in the cards anyway.

I'd go with it and if anything happens, repair the issues to make things right. At 150k, the truck has lots of life in it.

If it's not leaking or burning (consuming)any oil, I'd stay with what you are using......

BTW, why not try Supertech Synthetic? It states on the bottle it's good for "high mileage" vehicles as well; contains the seal conditioners, etc. of your typical "HM" oil.


Something I don't quite understand about Mobil 1. They got Synthetic, and then Synthetic High Mileage. Why not just keep it all in one?

Something I don't quite understand about Mobil 1. They got Synthetic, and then Synthetic High Mileage. Why not just keep it all in one?

For one thing their High Mileage oils are SL not SM, which some would say that doesn't matter much. Perhaps more cleaning than reg. M1 for engines that have some sludge already built up. Here is a link that will tell more about it.

My son switched his 91 Ranger over to Mobil 1 5w30 High Mileage(from Mobil 1 10w30) at 300K because of a oil weep around the pan. The engine now has 353K and the weep seems to have improved.

So i made the switch, we'll see how it goes.
