Considering switching from Castrol GTX 10w40 to RX 15w40 in my Toyota/s (Rav4 and Highlander - both 4 cylinders) for the better additive package. Looking for feedback from those more knowledeeable than I if this a good move. Thanks!

I'm not so sure that either is a particularly great choice. What viscosity does each recommend?

We need to know more about your situation, etc.

If you like Castrol it seems like Syntec Blend in 10W-30 might be a better choice.

I'm liking the Syntec Blends

Why 10-40 or 15-40??

Both manuals recommend 10w30 in winter and 10w40 in summer. The winters in SC are relatively mild (seldom below 32F) and the summers usually exceed 90+. Both vehicles are driven in traffic daily with the Highlander getting highway miles as well. The 2001 Rav4 has 34,000 and the 2001 Highlander has 64,000. Thanks again for the feedback!

I would use a 15W-40 dino over a 10W-40 dino in any vehicle and climate for which either would be appropriate. South Carolina in the summertime is an excellent use of RX 15W-40, Chevron Delo 15W-40, etc.

Isn't the 15-40 a 'fleet grade'. That means it should be more robust than the 10-40 and may provide to be a better 'summer' performer.

I've never used either one, but would also agree with the 10-40 'Syntec Blend' recommendation as a viable substitute as well albeit at a slightly greater cost.

Would the 15w40 be too heavy for winters where temps range from low 30-50f? Should I go with 10w30 or 5w30 GTX? Thanks for the feedback!
