Ok, got two quads, Suzuki Vinson 500 is a 2002, has 857 total miles. Yamaha Kodiak 400 is a 2004, has 784 miles. Lots of around the farm use year round. Use from neg 20F to mid 90's F. Wife put euro 5w40 quaker state synthetic in her kodiak in April, no issues. We went swamping in our lower land to reclaim logs. Both got swamped so changing all fluids in both quads. I have a bunch of Castrol GTX full syndrome 5w30 around. Any issues using that oil in either quad? I have plenty of 80w-90 gear oil for front and rear differentials, New Air filters, etc, so no questions there.

Check the manuals but without looking into it, I'd run the 30 weight. I have run 30 weight in my 2000 Polaris Magnum 500 for a few years without issue. My quad used to sit in an unheated shed and be used all year for acreage work.

It always got what was left over after changing the oil in my vehicles. Usually a diesel rated oil.

If you have the full automatic belt driven cvt transmission then I think running auto engine oil won’t have any adverse or short term performance issues. For my LT500F with the semi automatic transmission, it doesn’t like automotive oil and the gear shift lever is pretty notchy and can be difficult to shift at times so I prefer atv/motorcycle JASO specific oil in the wet clutch design.

They probably call for 10w40 originally in the owner's manual.

The 5w40 QS Euro should get a pass, I would skip the Castrol GTX as it is (Resource Conserving), whatever you pick make sure it does not indicate Resource Conserving on the label. Wally World sells Supertech Motorcyle/ATV oil JASO MA/MA2 full synthetic for $8.72 a quart or the Valvoline ATV 10w40 mineral for $6.47 a quart. Both are good oils. I've run both in my Yamaha Raptor year-round.
