Off a 2014 Kia Rio. Close to 3K. Piston soak at the end so a lot of carbon.

Filter media appears “twisted.” Odd?

Filter was supplied to me for free from @53' Stude !

Those pleats were twisted when it was made, as only some end pleats are potted in the end caps not aligned with the opposite end cap from the start. No big deal really. Widest base gasket on Earth, lol. I see a ruffled leaf spring too.

Nice filter, I cut one long ago when used on the KIA during an engine flush and it was surprisingly sturdy.

By the way, the FRAM made FS9688 actually has a lower bypass spring rate compared to the MP9688 which is OEM by Champ Labs.
I measured 3 pound opening force on the Fram while the Champ has a 5 pound opening force, both filters have the same 1/2" valve opening diameter.

I used to like the now discontinued Champ Labs made MP series filters as good value filters. But, since I c&p an MP7317 off a neighbor's Civic (that I installed) and confirmed WCW flashlight finding of bypass seal area leakage, not keen on them now. Same goes for any similar Champ Labs variant using same metal to metal bypass piece seal.

On these 9688 applications though, I really like how Champ extended the gasket to the OD of the filter. Imo, a nice improvement over the narrow sealing gasket used on other brands 9688 filters. Just can't get past the bypass seal though.

Thanks for c&p.

Wonder how "stuck on" those filters can get if over tightened some with that crazy large base gasket.
