Hello all,

Our favorite oil-source store (OK, I'll say it: Wal-Mart) is clearancing out the 5 quart jugs of SuperTech 10w30 High Mileage Synthetic Blend oil for $5.00 in the Houston area.

I have three quick questions:

1) In your "learned" opinion(s), is this oil worth $1.00 a quart?

2) Would mixing 10w30 HM Synthetic Blend with SuperTech 10w30 HM "Full Synthetic" in a 4:1 ratio make the resulting blend "better"????

3) What OCI(s) would you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

It's worth the $1/quart if you think it's worth it. It's probably group III which isn't bad, it just means it's not a "true" sythetic. Use it for a 3,500 - 4,000 miles oci, or if you feel more comfortable only run 3,000 miles. If you throw in a super tech filter it's a complete oil change got $7.07 + tax and that aint bad. It's not an equivalent to Mobil 1 or Red Line or Royal Purple, but it's 1/4 of the cost.

On the mixing subject. I don't like to mix, Some people like to mix...It's a matter of opinion. I like to think of it like mixing golfballs and baseketballs; you don't end up with softballs (someone elses analogy). It's inexpensive stuff. Use it until you're out and then look for a new bargain, that's half the fun.

1) Yes, its worth $1 a quart.
2) Their "full synthetic" isn't that great a product, so mixing would probably not help that much.
3) I would consider this basically a conventional oil, so change it at what your owners manual calls for.
