I am going to give this a try in my 97 Civic, it has 177,000 miles.

Walmart had a 5 qt. For $17.00.

Do you think this is good for a 5k interval?

Anyone know who makes it for Walmart?

Thanks.

+1

I used SuperTech synthetic in my 2000 Honda Civic once for 4,000 miles. It seems to run best on Penzoil High Milage. I have about the same milage as you.

No worries. I performed UOAs with ST Syn, VWB, Amsoil and M1 at a 5000 mile OCI and the results were just as good as the other oils at that distance.

My 96 civic has the 5w20 synthetic In it and 150k miles. 4k into this oci it has gone down about 3/4 quart. Just topped it off. Figuring on 5-6k oci and it's nice and quiet. Good mpg and no additional leaks or anything.

Is Irvine stop and go traffic? I feel a lot of members here don't realize the harsh realities of urban driving. Older cars, the 3K/3,000miles was a good guide. Contrary to most, Jiffy Lube wasn't that off the mark.

It'll get dark pretty quick because it cleans so well. I had mine
in for 3700 miles until I couldn't stand the dark color no more.
You don't need the 5w30 in California though.

Any synthetic, Walmart Super Tech included, can easily do 8-10k OCI.

No, stop and go during rush hours is the norm at every medium and large city, but the speed limit on most Irvine streets are 45-50 MPH, so traffic flows fairly smooth most days.

Ran real good in my rogue, preserved power well, which is an indication of keeping rings clean - though I am finding out the rogue like a VERY thin 30, so I have been thinning the current VSP with 0w20 to good effect - even in the summer! I plan to run Supertech Syn 5w20 in the coming winter.

Jeepers!!!
any current ILSAC "dino"++ would do a 'slightly left of normal' 5K OCI. - GF5 are OLM oils designed for up to 1 year.

The Supertech is easily as good as VSP or Castrol Black bottle EDGE. There is nothing special about the middls of the road Majors vs Minors in pseudo-synthetic American oils.
