I have always used the Motorcraft filters for my vehicles and have been reading about some other options out there. I own an 08 F150 (5.4L), an 02 Mustang GT, and a supercharged 90LX Mustang. I have been reading about improved flow with synthetic filters, but not sure if that is the way to go. The truck gets an oil change every 3K miles and the 2 Mustangs get 1 oil change a year, as they are only used in the summer. All 3 three filters are Motorcraft with the exception of some Group 7 filters on the truck. The F150 uses regular 5w20 Pennzoil, the 02GT gets Pennzoil Ultra now that its out (used to use Platinum). Then the 90LX gets Valvoline VR-1 20w50.

With so many options out there, I am leaning all sorts of ways. Are there any reccomendations as to which I should run?

I just slap a M1 filter on and change every 15K miles on my Toyota. I am not an OC enthusiast.

OT: If you are doing any type of highway driving 3K is probably too short for an OCI.

My commute to work is only 3 miles. So mileage remains low on all of my vehicles. The truck gets an oil change every 4000 miles which takes quite some time to accrue. The cars are changed once a year in April. Changing a filter once every 15K makes my eye twitch.

Filter change and 3K intervals, coupled with long pan drain times (to get every last drop out) seem to be popular with married guys who are looking for some well justified personal time. Seems right for your scenario also IMHO.

15K is 6 months for me. M1 is an extended drain filter. I don't sweat it although I understand the hesitation by others. Not much air moving thru my 1.5L when I am on the highway.
