Yesterday was an absolute scorcher, 110F outside, and about the same inside, with the swamp coolers running flat out.

Our 3 year old daughter was feeling the effects of the heat, and that we were in and out all day, so I decided to buy some Ice for her to play with.

(She created the South Pole, and pretended to be a penguin).

They were almost sold out of ice, so I bought 3 bags.

To keep the other two from melting, I placed them in a styrofoam box, and took about 3 quarts of ice and made a freezing mix (ice and salt) thinking that sacrificing a few quarts of ice might keep the remainder from melting.

My experiment worked a treat...It's raining.

anyone want some ice ?

Yep, it's quite nice at present, inside and out.

Strawberry plants are stanfing up again, and the garden looks really refreshed... collected about 10 litres of water for the dispenser.

Hopefully the cloud cover won't burn off, or it will be humid.

Shannon,

I'm curious - your mention of "swamp coolers". Is this the down under term for a freon type air conditioner? Or, is it an evaporative water/cooling pad unit?

doitmyself,
they are the simple evaporative coolers that work pretty well inland.
