AP) — Subaru is recalling over 400,000 vehicles in the U.S. to fix problems with engine computers and debris that can fall into motors.

The first recall covers 466,000 Imprezas from 2017 through 2019, and 2018 and 2019 Crosstreks. Subaru says the engine computer can keep powering the ignition coil after motors are shut off. That could cause a short circuit and blown fuse.

Dealers will update software and replace coils and front exhaust pipes if needed.

The second covers 205,000 Imprezas from 2017 through 2019 and 2018 Crosstreks. The aluminum positive crankcase ventilation valves can fall apart. Debris can enter the engine and cause power loss.

Dealers will replace valves if needed. If a valve has separated and parts can't be found, engines will be replaced.

Both recalls start Dec. 13.

I should have added to focus on the second to the last sentence re: ".......if valve has separated.....engines will be replaced."

Doh!

Exactly plenty of other manufacturers have problems that are equal to or worse in severity and they will do anything to not step up and make the customer whole.
Good for Subie!

Subaru has massive sales increases but their process of engineering, supply chain , qa and manufacturing is a wreck. Massive growing pains keeping up.

They even admit it.

Absolutely true. There is a perception that the quality of cars are inversely proportional to the number of cars that the company recalls. Nothing could be further from the truth. Some car companies are very reluctant to issue recalls. They almost never voluntarily issue a recall, and will fight NHTSA to to the bitter end until they are absolutely forced to issue a recall. But their quality really isn't that great. Chrysler is the pinnacle of this scenario. Other companies are quick to issue recalls, rarely having to be motivated by NHTSA or class action suits. With the exception of the gas pedal fiasco back in 2009, But they tend to have some of the best cars on the market. Toyota tends to follow this philosophy.

Of course there are companies that end up issuing a lot of recalls because they have a lot of issues. GM comes to mind. But recalls should not be considered as a measure of quality.

Subaru seems to have better services for issues that should not be there in the first place!! sooooo many recalls for newer vehicles is why i drive older stuff, no warranty BUT NO problems!!
