It's an homage. Years ago VW had a commercial where you saw a man driving through snow in a beetle. The announcer said, "Ever wonder how the snow plow man gets to work? He drives a Volkswagen." Mad_Hatter is too young and daisy fresh to remember that oldie.

Been called a lot of things but never "daisy fresh", that was funny! LOL Yeah, never saw that commercial.

Learned to drive a stick on a 63 beetle. They did get though snow great with that engine behind the rear wheels and the tall skinney tires. ..... but I paaked my new caa with a clicka - it's wicked awesome. It's a Sonat-er !

Back in the day most commercials were quite lame. I used to look forward to seeing the Clio award winners. Nowadays a lot of commercials seem like candidates for a Clio award.

If you mean Mid to late 60's thru early 70's I would disagree. This was the dawn of the entertaining or comedic ads.
