I used Amsoil Heavy-Duty Metal Protector spray on my coilover sleeves last year, and now I can't move them. They are seized, but obviously there's no rust. What should I use to dissolve the Amsoil Metal Protector so I can move the coils? Heavy duty brake cleaner can't handle it, it's not powerful enough. Thanks!

I'd try some mineral spirits and an old paint brush to apply it ...that should remove the HDMP.

As you have found, it's pretty tenacious stuff, but that's the intent ...

It is also known as paint thinner.

My guess is that PB blaster should work too, although it is more of a penetrating lubricant than a cleaner. Also, the Amsoil MP may have allowed you to over-torque your collars much like anti-seize can on spark plugs, so if you use it next time, maybe don't tighten it as much?

Thanks TooSlick and ChrisW, paint thinner did the trick. I have one more question though: does paint thinner evaporate cleanly without leaving residue? If there's residue, is it corrosive?

Thanks
