Do have any links I can checkout, I really enjoy reading about this topic. Most of what I have read from sites/people that believe any flat tappet needs extra zddp say a stock engine should have at least 1000ppm zddp so I assume they mean zinc and phosphorus.

I have to ask you to be more specific when you say "back then". In 89 it looks like SG was king, I'll have to dig out my owners manual but I'm guessing SG is what it called for since SG went from 88 to 93.

I don't think people realize 600ppm was the norm back then.



Indeed it wasn't until the 60's ZDDP exceeded this amount. It was increased because it was a cost effective antioxidant.
