Yesterday I heard the new Van Halen song "Tattoo." I am not a Van Halen fan and this song confirms why. Their old music was faster and jazzy. This one is slow and bluesy. I watched their video because I am a masochist. It sounded like Roth, but the guy on stage looked like Steve Martin.

57? Dang. Pretty soon he will be moving like Jagger. Hilarious thread, btw.

This thread is too funny.... I saw the video and listened to Tattoo. Once. I don't know what to make of it honestly. It's not the same without Michael Anthony's bass and the old school VH harmonies. Also it is not the same VH musical style; there is none of the old VH pride and essence of true hard rock songwriting that could make you forget all the bad things about your day. However, Ed's guitar sounded great. But, I guess it's not 1977 anymore either. It's not quite rockers with walkers, but it won't kill me if I never hear it again. Maybe the rest of the record will be better. We can only hope.

Can't say it on this forum......last part was "head"...LOL!

Tattoo....still on the fence post with that song. Didn't entirely dis-liked it, as I was glad to hear a good EVH solo and Diamond Dave can still sing and it had a few seconds of classic VH "hooks," but it just didn't leave a VH taste in my mouth. Right now....I'd give 6 out of 10 thumbs up.

I'm a big Van Halen fan from way back. LOVE them. But this song is proof that they need to hang it up. The two new songs they did with Roth for their Greatest Hits vol. 1 album weren't bad, but this single is terrible. I have very little hope for the rest of the album.

5/10 for me. Entirely predictable and boring, although a distinct VH sound. And yes, Dave can sing well and Eddie still (no reason not too I guess) plays well.

It also looks weird seeing Wolfgang on bass. I'm sure he gets the job done but Michael Anthony was a big part of Van Halen's sound, especially the background vocals. But from some of the things Sammy Hagar has said, the Van Halen brothers are huge [censored] and not worth the trouble of working with again. I think he and Mike are happier doing Chickenfoot anyway.

There were one, maybe two on that album? For some reason I can't even remember it or even hum it, but I remember really liking it and wondering why it didn't get more airplay. What was the name of that song or songs???

Haven't heard the new VH song...looking forward too, thought. I was totally jazzed to be able to see VH tour with DLR, as they are playing OTTAWA!! But, then my buddy checked ticket prices: Cheap seats....$150!! Huge VH fan, but no freakin' way am I paying that.

Thanks very much for posting that! I like it - it has a much closer to the original VH sound that the greatest hit's stuff they did - 'Me Wise Magic'...that sounded 'off'. I think this tour and album are going to be the come-back story of next year, if not the decade. Die-hard VH fans have been waiting ages for a VH that got back to it's roots - DLR, Eddie, and that 'big' VH sound. The band sounds and looks great - getting along, in good shape, no health concerns...yeah, VH will the one to watch in 2012!
