The news is still breaking the story. A lot of people were saying it sounded bad when he stepped down the last time.

It's all over their front page, too:

No doubt, especially considering the legacy he leaves. This is akin to someone like Thomas Edison dying, truth be told.

It should be a celebration of a life well lived, albeit far too brief. He was with out a doubt one of the most brilliant people of our generation, and he will be sorely missed.

It's rare that a CEO is so well-known and well-liked by the public. If you think about it, how many people can name the CEO of Chevron, Proctor & Gamble or GE? Even though every one of us has used their products. Not only was Jobs a visionary but he was an iconic figure in the same way the Wright Brothers or Henry Ford were.

Decades from now your great great grandchildren will know who he was and how he shaped the world.

Bill Gates, the man who was both a partner and rival to Steve Jobs during his long career at Microsoft, called working with jobs “an insanely great honor” and said he would miss the Apple founder “immensely.”
Shortly after the announcement of Jobs’ death, Gates sent a statement to AllThingsD, offering his condolences to Jobs’ family and friend and praising Jobs’ impact.
I’m truly saddened to learn of Steve Jobs’ death. Melinda and I extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends, and to everyone Steve has touched through his work.
Steve and I first met nearly 30 years ago, and have been colleagues, competitors and friends over the course of more than half our lives.
The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come.
For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it’s been an insanely great honor. I will miss Steve immensely.

He was the guiding light for Apple and a true visionary. There have been but few like him. The impact on the IT industry will be tremendous.

RIP.
I've never been a big (or even small) Apple fan, but there's no denying how much he has done for technology in general and for Apple.
