Sterre flushed w/dextron

I recently completely flushed out the P/S system with Dextron. I had a very slight leak a drop out the rack boot after sitting over night. Apon checking the level, it being good the fluid was filthy black so I flush all with fresh Walmart dex II & III Mercon. I added Lucas P/S stopleak about 4oz. and is curently not leaving a drop on the ground at this time. Why should I replace this atf fluid on this 1996 Northstar engine. I have racked up 1000mi since. The P/S seems good but I don't need problems.
 
Hey slick, I mispunctuated and misguided my question, it'll happen, I apologize for my inaccuracies.... Why should I replace this walmart brand dextron II/III mercon fluid in this 1996 Northstar p/s system. I have driven 1000mi since the fluid flushing. I want to avoid consequences of having the wrong oil installed.

No biggee, we got it now, you flushed your system with fresh ATF and added some stop leak, and now it doesn't leak.

I say leave it for now, but keep an eye on it.
 
Not an issue. I almost always replace non-atf power steering fluid with ATF and have never had an issue. My wifes power steering lines on hear Buick should be replaced but since almost everythign needs replacing on it and cash is not unlimited they are not at the top of the list. I have refilled it more then once with ATF and have not had any issue's with it all. SInce we are talking years now that ATF has been in it I would suspect I would have had a problem by now if their was going to be one! I even put some MMO in just to make sure and again no issues. I do not think that GM's system really cares too much about what you put in it.

I have no idea how you managed to find Dex II or III but it should be fine!
 
I guess my concern has been to use ATF in the P/S according to some is forbidden/sac-religous and ATF oil is infact not P/S oil.(BMW uses dextron for p/s at the factory) I have always used ATF, my in cars, and never thought twice about it til now. I searched this forum and others for longer than I would consider reasonable and haven't found any clear answers to this topic. Enough said. I'm putting it to rest. MMO, interesting the positive strokes this additive gets here.

Interesting to me as well, especially given the lack of actual evidence that it's nothing more than snake oil.
