spam texts

I do not text. It is the most marked up consumer product out there, and thus a massive waste of money to me. Especially so since I have a data plan and pay for phone minutes - so I can email or call when I need to.

But lately Ive been getting spam texts saying that Ive won this or that. Havent called AT&T, but I will soon so that I dont get charged 20c each.

I dont really want to turn the feature off, in case someone I know decides that they need to send me a text. But I certainly dont want to pay for any that I should not be getting.

Is the FCC reporting the best approach, or is there something else to do?

The do not call list is a joke for both landlines and cell phones. Telemarketers violate it all the time because they know the most they get is a slap on the wrist. Getting these texts is no different than getting unwanted calls on your cell.

If the elected officials really want to do something good for the people shut down the whole telemarketing industry. Period. No exceptions. No calls from for profit companies, No calls from charities and non-profits, No calls from political candidates.
Forget the fines. First violation 60 days in jail no exceptions, Second violation 120 days and so on.

I've also started receiving these stupid spam texts, I'm ignoring them for now as I have unlimited texting. It's extremely annoying, but I'd rather have spam texts than spam phone calls. lol

I just wonder how they get your #. Do you give it out or simple bot that send to every # under the sun. I use Google Voice as a shield as they have free texts anyway.

Texting is overpriced if you lose it very little. However if you have or know a teenager a bargain for unlimited. It seems teens no longer talk on the phone like we did growing up.

You only have to pay for texts that you send. If someone else texts you, it doesn't cost you anything. Just like making a long-distance phone call.

Well, thats why it is important to read the contract

If youre right, I have less to worry about. I thought AT&T charges 20c either direction... hope Im wrong!
