You know the more I learn the less the "Boutique" oils (Amsoil/RedLine/Royal Purple etc) attract me. This boards is a wealth of info and the folks posting here are patient and knowledgable. The newer oils....Havoline 5-40 Synthetic...Pennzoil Platinum....of course the Castrol Syn 0-30 and 5-40...look very good. I am up on the Havoline and Pennzoil Synthetics.....I do have a question though

What do I do with the 3 cases of Amsoil in my garage? j/k...I'll use it up...but doubt if I'll go back to them for more......looks like the oil "wars" are resulting in some fine product being delivered out there......Thank you Mobil1....you stirred it up!

Well, I'm sure Pennzoil Platinum will be a good product, but we don't have much but spec. data right now. Compared to regular PZ the PZ current syn has left me cold. It isn't that superior if at all to the standard PZ. I run GC-0W-30 and it's a bargain at $3.99

I don't know what Amsoil you have stocked, but if it fits the application, I'd run it all out.

Despite all I see here, I have never proven to myself that any oil is both "cheaper" and can go "extended" any better than Amsoil. Will GC beat ATM for me. I haven't drawn a total conclusion yet. We see a lot of personal opinion here, but factual data is the proof.

Mobil 1 has stirred things up, agreed, but I'll reserve judgement until I see real world results.

M1 SS was great but, showed me it might need some helper from something like LC to extend. My jury is out on the EP.

two cases Amsoil 5-30 and 1 case 10-40 (I mix) I'll use it up.....
It is good to see the "others" putting out some decent products.....I agree the Pennzoil looks promising...look forward to seeing real world results.....

Just curious. I see why people mix M1. Why mix Amsoil. What do you achieve? Just curious. I don't sell anything by the way, never did. Just used 10W-30 ATM on a limited basis as a consumer.

I was after the lighter weight and higher viscosity. Wanted a 12 cSt @100c...so I used the viscosity calc provided here and mixed it....I know I know....German Castrol 0-30 is a 12 right out of the bottle The Havoline 5-40 Synthetic is also.....but I have two cases of Amsoil 5-30 and one case of 10-40 so I'll mix until it is gone

No problem. At 11.8 cst, I use the 10W-30 ATM as an alternative to GC. It's close enough and is a better Winter oil than the 10W would have you believe. It doesn't get that cold here anyway. No problems procuring GC yet, though.
