Well, someone I know well finally did it. She sold her Tesla Model 3 and bought a used Mach-E just because of Elon Musk. Putting the title of her Facebook post here would violate forum rules so I won't do it. but assume it had something to do with the German government of the mid-late 1930s and early 1940s.

I can't say I really agree with her. She bought it used anyway from Carvana, so it's not like Tesla made any money off the transaction, and she doesn't use Superchargers, she charges at home only. I mean yeah I don't like Elon Musk either, but, you're always going to lose money trading a car in and getting another. I would not be willing to have my family take a financial hit to get out of a perfectly functional vehicle just because I didn't like the views of the CEO.

I also saw a Cybertruck yesterday with an NRA sticker on it that said "I bought this because of Elon Musk". Hey, more power to him/her. For someone like me who's an overall EV advocate, opposing Tesla because of Musk doesn't really make overall sense if the goal is to increase EV adoption. If they turn on 500KW charging for Cybertrucks at V4 Superchargers, I may just have to consider one when this Lightning lease runs out.

anyway...just random Monday thoughts.

I understand the Musk effect, both pro and con. In my case, I bought our 1st Model 3 in Dec 2018, in part, to support the Tesla workforce here in Fremont. NUMMI was the biggest employer in the Fremont area, close to 7,000 at peak plus support. When they shut down, over 5,000 workers were left and lost their jobs. The local economy suffered. Homes were lost. Restaurants closed. Think about all the connectivity. Fremont gave Musk a sweetheart deal, tax wise and other incentives, to build his cars there.

Today over 25,000 people work at the Fremont plant, and far more in contract and support positions. The Fremont plant produces more cars than any auto plant in North America. Tesla has well over 120K workers world wide. The 2 Model 3's I've purchased are some of the most American cars you can buy. I support that. This is a great American success story.

So Tesla is more than Musk, IMO. Of course, we are all free to speak with our money.

My focus is on how the federal government can continue to pay its rising interest only payments on the debt, the growing federal debt, and how to continue to pay entitlements.

Debt interest payments, growing deficit, and entitlement payments are what I pray our great nation that has given so much to its citizens can successfully navigate and solve. I can't imagine the consequences if our nation if can't address those three items.

I don't invest time in much else.

I have quickly become not a fan of him either... I like the EV's, and the re-usable rockets, and the satellite internet network, but how he is getting involved in the government, etc. isn't for me...
It kinda makes you laugh. The things people get wrapped up in with news headlines or politics is crazy.

People need to turn the TV off, chat with their neighbor and help those close to them.
At some point he's going to cut programs/people that make real differences in quality of life for the country. The poor will suffer first, and then it will creep up to the middle class... Labor and environmental laws and regs aren't just made to be a PITA for business, usually a bunch of people have had to die or be sick, before a government will try to prevent it from happening again.
$1.7B cut from education already in a country well known already for education inequality, as a lay-man this seems like not a great idea to make a workforce for the tech future?

I kind of hope people do vote with their wallets with Tesla, and it will be interesting to see how low their market share in California will be in Q1. TSLA stock might take a bit of a nose dive?
