I used acetone to clean up some primer overspray but am close to the bottom of the can. For the car painters out there, what is actually the best chemical to use. Would it be acetone, paint thinner or something else? The acetone on a paper towel worked just fine but I’m wondering if it’s harmful on existing paint.Thanks.

Acetone is harmful to any paint surface what primer are you cleaning up yes there may be better clean up solvent available not being harmful to painted surface.

You might try one of the citrus based solvent, but they can be pretty aggressive too. Be careful. I've used lacquer thinner, but you must be VERY careful with that.
