As I look through the VOA I see many that have varing amounts of Sodium content.I have read that it is sometimes used as an additive but I have not found any reference as to what function the sodium performs in the oil.Anyone happen to know ?

Thank you.

Sometimes the additive boron, an AW and detergent, comes in the form of either Potassium Borate or Sodium Borate, so this is where you may see it.

Also, Sodium is a constiutent of anti-freeze, and it sometimes difficult to determine where it comes from unless there is glycol found in the UOA, and then you know it's definately from anti-freeze.
