For those that are signing up soon (or later). Be aware when you get signed up they will ask you for money-supposedly to cover a few payments of your Medicare. In my case it was $670, in my wife's case $405. Then I got a letter to quit sending them money! I only sent what they demanded that one time... Then they said they would be sending $536 back. It took several calls and 40 days. My wife only got back 135 of her 405 back so far.

Good thing we could afford to lend SS some money for a while but I know there are plenty of people that can't.

I think it is wrong, but here is the deal. You have 3 months before your birthday to sign up. It would be smart of them to at least warn you to start finding some cash to loan them instead of telling you at the last minute.

Oh, Part D....how did the Insurance Plans get away with not paying for so many Doctor ordered prescriptions? AND if you pay cash for those-it is NOT considered out-of-pocket costs toward the donut hole?? My friend is paying $300 a month for some insulin drug out of pocket.

Well, I mean, we know why-but [censored]...

This has nothing to do with Social Security -- your title should say Medicare sign up.

Many people do not draw or file for SS until they turn 66 (FRA) or wait until 70 to maximum benefits.

As to Medicare, here are the procedures

If you pay cash it will not go to your deductible / donut hole (gap). It's messed up.

Oh I'm definitely confused after going thru that! LOL. But at 65 we signed up for SS and you are automatically signed for MC.
