So this question is bothering me...

Both my sister's car and my daily take the same amount of oil.. around 4.2 quarts, and usually both have the same oil (GC).

BUT, her car is a 1999 New Beetle 2.0 5spd with 115hp.. and she doesn't drive it that hard.
My daily is a 2004 SE-R Spec-V (2.5)6spd with around 200hp.. and I drive it REALLY hard, plus it gets the occasional autocross and trip to the drag strip.

I know some oils are "7000mile" oils, and others are "15,000mile" oils, etc. But, shouldn't we be more specific in what TYPE of car??
Her car is really easy on oil so we have no problem taking it to 10k miles with GC. But it should not be the same with my car.. there is no way I would go that long even though people says GC can even do 15k miles.

I think we need to start being more specific...

Another example... the Sentra GXE (1.8) I used to have only took 2.9 quarts, and it saw regular track duty. There are other 1.8L engines that can take around 4 quarts... so the OCI has to be different even though the oil has certain capacities.

You're not the only one annoyed by people who read "I'm towing a boat at 85 mph through mountains with my smart car" and reply "I'd go 10,000 miles on SuperTech conventional no problem, I do it all the time in my v8 town car".

The QR25 motors are natural oil burners, kind of. Consuming oil in those motors is usually the first step of it on it's way out. Then you will see excessive blow-by and poor compression numbers. I can't tell you how many 2.5l we replaced when I worked for Nissan. Are you still within the powertrain warranty requirements?

I always take the car, climate, traffic conditions, MPG, etc into consideration. But I get your point, some folks just throw out pretty general recommendations.

Oh wow, do you know if this applies to the Rogue 2.5sItsan08 and already has 25k miles. We plan on keeping it a while. Is it just bad rings? I know the cvt in this things acts and sounds like it's about to explode soon though, defenitely different than when it was new... I like transmissions with gear sets

It is true with out a used oil analysis you have no idea how the oil is doing?!?!? As to how long it could go that is mostly a TBN and insolubles question and TBN is expensive to do for no reason?

I'm of the opinion one can somewhat use Mobils oil as a guideline. Mobil 5,000m dino..Mobil 7,000m syn.blend..Mobil 1 10,000 full syn.. etc.

No.. I'm at 76k miles.. and it doesn't burn a drop of oil.
The oil problems and going out early is a problem cause by the pre-cat (I'm sure you know that), but I took care of that first thing
