As far as a relay, I don't recall a vehicle not using a relay for horns?

This or the four note GM horns. You can find them on eBay either rebuilt or new clones.

wolo badboy is dual-tone single-unit air horn. it is LOUD but shrill. It gets heard but at a higher pitch.

hella supertones are known to be loud and "normal" pitched.

Ooga horns are great fun but relatively quiet.

I like cheap air horns IF you can keep the pipe runs short. long hose delays the "on" time.

most effective horn I had was a mismatched set of 3 that wasn't in tune. it sounded awful, like a trainwreck, and got noticed.

I have also found oem wiring is barely big enough to handle the oem horn. if you ADD a horn, you NEED to add a relay and better wiring, otherwise you won't get full output.

A buddy used to have a beautifully restored '72 DeVille. The factory horn setup had 3 horns- two very ordinary notes like all other GM cars, and then a lower-pitched about the size of a cornet horn. It did indeed like a 3-note Nathan or Leslie from a locomotive. It was a minor chord, IIRC.

Some cars may have a body control module that activates the horns, replacing a relay.

Ford used this thing they called a "CCRM" which was several relays in one module, but I don't know if those operated horns.

The GM horns pull around 4 amps apiece. Here's some installed on a Gen Coupe. The You tube for it is no longer there though. It's a night and day difference. Cost around $75 on ebay for the horns.

+1 on the GM 3 or 4 note horn setup. I mounted a 4 note setup from a Cadillac Eldorado under the front bumper of my Jeep wired in with a relay to the battery and it sounds great. I used the stock horn feed wiring to activate the relay.

Hello, A friend's '89 K1500 Silverado had horns which sounded like Harpo Marx doing the "Say AHHHH" bit with the doctor.
Another pal salvaged a pair of deck horns from an old Chris Craft boat.
Now his truck sounds like Uncle Bill and Aunt Louise arriving at a 1955 beach party in Upstate New York. Kira
