I had to get an oil change because the dealer fubared doing warranty work and my mobil one oil got changed out, to valvolines full synthetic 5w30. So I am going to only run it for a short 3K change, but I couldnt find much of anything on valvolines full syn on this site. I guess no one even tried it because of the mediocre add pack the durablend has?? I did notice the hate for valvoline in searching posts though.

I think Valvoline gets a bad rap on its additive package (other than Max-Life), but I think Valvoline synthetic has above average thermal stability. I ran a bunch of oils, a lot of them high end synthetics, in a homemade TGA Noack test, and NAPA synthetic (made by Valvoline), was second only to Amsoil full syn. for weight loss. If your a believer that base-stock makes an oil I think you can't go wrong with this product, group III or not.

As to the Durablend, remember simple VOA's don't show everything. Some think it may test for antimony, which could also show up as a wear metal, even though that would be an incorrect read. It could be a top performer for GF-4.

I wouldn't worry or shorten the recommended oci to 3K unless it really makes you all that uncomforatable.

My flame suit is on but, actually Synpower and Castrol work pretty well. Try it and you might like it.

I am running my first load of Synpower (10w30) in wife's Aerostar. It had run mostly on Durablend before that. I am noticing the Synpower getting dirty very quickly (oil blotters). This may be due to the synthetic flowing better and having higher detergent and so may be washing out the crud from 105000 miles. At any rate, I really like the way it starts up cold on the Synpower. So if this is your first load of "synthetic," maybe you will get the cleaning effect too. I was planning on running this stuff a year (4000-5000 miles) but may have to dump it early if it gets much dirtier (am at 6 months now and only

1600 miles on it).

Just a note to VW peeps. Although the VSP 5w-30 is listed on VW's 502-Approved list, it is an error. That spec is met by Euro VSP 5w-30, not N.A. VSP and I confirmed this myself with a helpfull Valvoline Tech. VSP 5w-40 is available at NAPA and PepBoys.
