Snowblower grease

The MTD manufacturer uses an oily type grease in the gearbox that turns the augers. They don't recommend 90 weight synthetic gear oil for unknown reasons.
When I opened up the gearbox, all of their grease was at the bottom and nothing was on the gear.
Their grease was a blob of **** that did nothing.
Why is 90 weight synthetic gear oil OK in my 99 GMC but not in the snowblower.

I would use amsoil 75w90 dispite what they say.

That's what I think. If it doesn't work, It will cost me about $250 US to fix. It is a gamble I am willing to take just to see.

Well, I put 90 wt. synthetic gear oil in the gearbox. I can't say what the other grease was like as I never really paid any attention to it. The new gear oil runs above freeaing. When I stop moving snow, the gearbox is cool and water is melting off of the enclosure. This is fine with me. It says that the oil is circulating and removing heat. Hopefully !!
This after 2 hours of moving snow and -18F.
