I just checked my oil after a 30 minute drive and noticed a few small specks on the upper part of the dipstick......the amount that is not in the oil? Should I worried?

What type of car, how many miles, what's the maint. history, what kind of oil?

I think small specks on older or neglected engines is normal.

It's just oil lice.

Sounds like leftover crud that is being cleaned out with the new oil, you may want to run an autorx treatment if this is an older car with many miles.

Though you say "the amount that is not in the oil" do you mean the part of the dipstick that is not touched by oil?

Is this a VW 1.8T? I think thats what youve been posting about lately. If so, my college roomate has a 1.8T GTI that had some dark brown specs around the oil filler hole. I think its due to the sludging/breakdown that this engine causes.

When I pull the dipstick out, its at the top of the dip stick, not the filler hole where you pour the oil into your engine. The car is brand new, I bought it brand new and it only has 1500 miles on it right now, so I cannot be sludging the oil, right?

My guess would be some type of something left during engine manufacture. So I guess I don't understand - it's not actually floating in the oil per se?

Are they plastic like?
