SM Oil Formulation to Cause Price Hike?

A Company Rep for an engine oil manufacturer has told the local auto parts store owner that the new SM formulation, will soon cause a significant increase in price per quart. This is the first time I heard anybody suggest that the new standard will cause a price hike. Has anybody else heard this claim?

Yes--meeting SM requires the use of higher quality and more costly base stocks (group II, II+)

Same deal on ATF when they move to the Dexron - III-H standard. The average bottle of ATF will probably double in price.

It's not just the base stocks, the additive prices have gone through the roof.
