Has anyone tried a Sleep Number bed and if so what did you think and what model?

It gets high marks on Consumer Reports.

I think I read somewhere that the air pump can break easily and it's not covered by warranty.

I'm a believer in good sleep s worth whatever the cost may be. My ex bought a sleep number bed about 4 months ago. First I was shocked it was 5k! After sleeping on it a few times I was really surprised at how mediocre it seemed. I had higher expectations. IMHO not worth it even at 1k.

I'm still on a Sealey foam mattress from 12 years ago. It was billed as a new endeavor by Sealey. It was expensive then, IIRC $1500. Of course not adjustable, and pretty firm, it has lasted very well and it shows no signs of loosing firmness.

I wouldn't, ours was more expensive than a regular mattress and didn't hold up as long. We went back to a traditional mattress.

Personally I think they are over rated and over priced.

This year I bought Leesa mattresses for the kids and a Purple Mattress for my wife and I. We are very pleased with all of them.

I've had a sleep number for about 14 years. It was and is comfortable for me. I don't remember the model number but it is a king size pillow top. The digital displays went out on the remotes after about 6 years. My remotes are hard wired to the pump and I would have to replace the pump and the remotes to fix so we have been adjusting by feel. The newer remotes can be replaced individually.

I like mine, it's a king size and was nowhere near 5k, it was more like 2.5k. My wife likes a soft bed and I like a firm bed so it is perfect for us. You can always change the firmness on each side. It hasn't had any problems. You only have to adjust the air when temperature changes a lot. They make them plain and with memory foam toppers. I've had it for probably 5 years now.

We have one. We had a foam one before but it was getting uncomfortable. The sleep number bed is great if you have a bad back since you can run it up to super firm and then back down when you feel better. The bad thing is if you move around a lot and are big if your wife's side is way lower than yours it wants to throw you off on the low side.

With the wireless remotes, the pump pairs with the first remote that searches for it after it's power cycled.

We had the same with ours. The display on the remote is the only bad thing about ours. I never bothered to replace the remote. The arrows depicting each side still appear, so we just adjust our sides by feel. Don't really need the numbers. So instead of replacing the remote, we just do it by feel.

I would not recommend the installation service. It's pretty easy to set up.

The warranty is not what it's cracked up to be based on what I've read. The percentage you pay for replacement goes up each year until you pay for everything.

Ours is probably 20 years old. They replaced the pump & remotes under warrantee and I've replaced the bolsters & pillowtop. Parts are available on ebay for much less than from SleepNumber. Renew the top every once in awhile and it's a new bed again. I wouldn't sleep well on anything else.

I sleep on one when i go to my brothers house to visit, he has one in the guest room.

Not what I was expecting.

We have had terrible luck with serta an seely mattresses over the years, so I went with an Ikea king mattress with a memory foam covered coil spring combination.

Has been the best mattress I've owned, we bought the matress, wood bed, dresser, and a few other items for like $900, so it was a bargain.

I'm on year 7 with mine. I got a great deal on Black Friday for their top of the line model, at the time, for ~60% off. My wife and I love it and wouldn't consider getting a different type of mattress. It's great to be able to adjust the firmness depending on how my back is feeling or if you are sick and spending a lot of time in bed.

The wife and I moved from a Queen sized Tempurpedic knock-off foam bed to a mid-range California King sized Sleep Number bed about 5 years ago. I also got their 3" foam topper (ComfortGel?) and pillows. Paid ~$4K for it (48 month, 0%).

Really love that bed! The wife normally sets her side to "65" and I normally set mine at "45". I'm a big fellow (6'2", 300lbs) and really like to be able to adjust the bed up/down depending on my day. I cycle it up to 100 each morning.

Only down side: When it gets time to "get down to business" if you catch my drift, you want to reset the mattress to a firm setting (say 90+).

FWIW: I found it to be well worth the money! My sister and her husband have also had one (P5?) for over 10 years now. No issues to date for either of us. They also mentioned to us that the bed parts (foam, pump, etc.) can be replaced/upgraded at any time instead of buying a whole new bed in the future.

We are going on year 14 with our Select Number bed.
I purchased the midrange model, it was called the 4000 at the time.
I purchased during the yearly model change, paid $1,700 for a King, which was $500 less than the newer model in the store, which was exactly the same except for a cover change.
The only issue that we have had with ours was the side bolsters on Mrs. Tdbo's side. That issue presented itself because she confuses the side of the bed with a chair. The original bolsters on my side are solid.
I purposely purchased the wired remotes. Both still work well as new.
We went with the Select Comfort because with my back issues, I need a firm bed. She prefers soft. With this bed, no one has to compromise or be uncomfortable.
This mattress has lasted as long as the two previous mattresses combined. Therefore, I view it as cost effective because components can be replaced instead of the whole unit.
We would not hesitate in purchasing another.

We replaced our California King Sleep Number bed this last fall after 20+ years. The pillowtop was starting to compress and the side bolsters were beginning to sag. For a 20 year run it was still comfortable, and we both liked it. We never had a single problem with it.

When we started pricing a new Sleep Number bed I discovered they had priced themselves out of what I really wanted to pay. After looking around I settled on a Helix mattress; with a 100 night trial and 100% money back guarantee it looked like it would be simple enough to replace it if we really didn't like it. I like that they have a questionnaire that determines the type of mattress that is best for you; each side can be individualized.

Once we set it up, we both agree that it is every bit as comfortable as our Sleep Number bed. There's no chance we're sending it back; we both get an excellent night's sleep on it.

My wife and I love ours. Very basic model -- doesn't even have digital displays on the remotes. Minimum pillow top, but we got a 2" memory foam topper, which is excellent. Spent less than $2k on it and it's one of my best investments. Gotta be like 10 years old at this point.

Never had a problem with the pump. Have had pinhole leaks in the air chambers though. Replaced two under warranty. Other than that, no problems.

I love being able to adjust the firmness and having different settings for me and my wife. We also got the dual-zone comforter, which we also love.

Different strokes for different folks, but I can't imagine buying anything else.

Same here. We bought ours in July of 1997. King size almost top of the line model back then, around $1,800? About 3 years ago we had to replace the bolsters, pillow top and the egg-crate under mattress for $300 or so. Made the bed good as new.
Still on original wireless remote and air pump. Have had 2 air mattress leaks, 1 covered 100%, the other was covered 80%. I have heard the new warranty is not as good as the old one.

I can't stand sleeping on anything else. It is a very high initial cost, but try using any other mattress for 20+ years. I am fat and I destroy regular mattresses.

I know what you mean. My side is firm and oilBabe is in a valley. So when I have to go down in the valley to get her, I usually bring her to my side of the bed

I have a C2 with SleepIQ.

It is the bottom of the line model, have had it a bit over a year. When you order the lower models with SleepIQ it come with the upgraded pump and you can return the SleepIQ card if you don’t like it and they let you keep the upgraded pump.

I like the bed, I sleep best with it set on the soft side. If you go to a store they have one that has pressure sensors and will tell you what your number is, though they will try to sell you everything but the kitchen sink...

I think people who get them up to $4-5000.00 are buying adjustable bases and the higher line mattresses with memory foam and heating and cooling layers and all that kind of stuff.

Actually, no. Try closer to ~$8K+ for those features. If I had the money, I'd go for the adjustable base as I tried one in the store and really liked it. The dual heated/cooled (each side separate) "upgrade" is a really cool feature and can help with the "she's colder, I'm hotter" kind of conversations but be prepared to pay through the nose.
