why do i see so many silver cars/trucks? Q #2 a friend told me that years ago, 50s, 60s that cherysler used silver cars, wagons as bonuses to the best sales men. true?

I don't know about the Chryslers. Just as green is the International Racing color of the UK, Red is for Italy, and Blue is for France, Silver is the International Racing color of Germany. That might explain why many German cars are silver shrug

silver/grey/white, has gained alot of momentum, as well as earth toned autos in the USA as of the past 20 years not sure why but most car lots i look at anymore have alot of dark blues, silvers grey's whites. and only a small handfull of bright colours to choose from.. drive past our local nissan/Chevy dealer and frankly the colours are downright boring. and that my friends is what i WANT now, 10 years ago at 25 i wanted bright red, glossy black, crome rims.. pure eyecandy.. today at 35 i like nuetral colours on my autos. I actually bought my truck in a two tone becouse it showed less dirt on the bottom..

Silver cars are everywhere and they are my LEAST favorite color. While admittedly easier to keep clean they blend in so much that they are hard to see in bad weather. I like white, bright red and certaiin blues and greens.

My car is one of the very few instances where I actually preferred the VW silver to their other colors. But honestly the only reason I was okay with silver was I don't have the time to obsess over keeping my car clean, so I wanted to go with something that doesn't look horrible when dirty.

Silver and white paint surfaces stay a lot cooler than something dark. And three months of dust on silver doesn't look as bad.

Pretty much agree although I personally lump white in with silver. I am not a fan of silver and white as the vehicle just does not stand out. You can spend hours detailing a silver or white vehicle and it doesn't look much different than before you started( or at least vs just a wash ). However, spend that same time on a dark vehicle and it pops out. I personally prefer dark colors like black, medium to dark blue, maroon, etc... I think blues are my favorite. With that said my last 3 vehicles have been... Silver Silver White frown I ended up taking a color I did not want as the deal on the vehicle was better. Oh well, at least on silver and white vehicles I don't have to work so hard/often to keep them looking nice. Now that I have MS a dark blue or black vehicle would be hard on me.

I remember seeing a lot of silver colored vehicles where the paint has started to flake off....don't know if this is still true or not. I prefer dark colors as well....red mostly. Last four vehicles I have owned were red...including my latest.

And the paint that did stay on the vehicle was FADED! There were some colors years ago besides silver that faded on their best day. Pea soup green, wine reds, burgandys and pale yellow were also FADERS too! And that's when they were maintained. The colors that weren't maintained didn't even stay on the metal

Also, I like to buy vehicles these days that clean up well and stay cleaner looking longer, even if a little dirty. No more Black, Midnight Blue or Charcoal! Bright Whites or Pearl Whites, Polished Pewter, Light Bronze or Champagnes and Bright Silvers. Although I must admit my eyes do get cought up in a really clean looking DEEP BURGANDY and just about anything BLACK! :()

I think silver is popular because it's a "safe" color. It's not likely to go out of style, it's not flashy, and it doesn't show every bit of dirt. The same goes for metallic tan and gray. I remember 10-15 years ago it was hard to find a new GM that wasn't painted "pewter metallic."

I wanted white, but my wife didn't. We settled on silver and she likes it. It is easy to care for. My truck is "cashmere" colored. I like that color more. Not a fan of dark colors anymore after owning a black vehicle. Too much trouble with all the rain/water spots and swirl marks. And I'm a pretty good at detailing but still feel that way.

We picked it for those reasons as well, also it seems that silver wheel paint is the same colour as the Tracker, so my rattle can touch ups aren't too noticable at a distance. White looks to utilitarian to me on basic vehicles and there was no dirt/dust biege available so silver was it.

I was under the impression that silver was more visible and thus a safer color but then found this: Of the two studies identified that actually sought to test the association between vehicle color and crash involvement, one found that silver cars were least likely to be involved in injury crashes (Furness 2003), and the other found that white or yellow cars were least likely to be struck by other drivers who committed infractions (Lardelli-Claret 2002). The finding that silver cars were safest was contradicted by many anecdotes of silver being seemingly invisible to other people and to animals, especially against the sunset. When choosing a vehicle, the bottom line is that there is presently no scientific evidence supporting the selection of one particular vehicle color as the unambiguous best choice for safety. Even my mechanically impaired mother noted the abundance of silver vehicles. I have one. On the other hand, note the lack of pink vehicles. Unless your name is Barbie and drive a Corvette, this color is rare!

As much as I don't like silver colored cars I do like 'sand' or beige or champaign which is very close to silver. The slight brown/gold tint gives it an earthy tone rather than COLD silver. It has many of the 'keep clean' attributes of silver without being omnipresent.
