signs I need hotter plugs

The manual on my 91 pathfinder specs 3 different spark plugs( hot,norm,cold) driving climate..I noticed every winter or when its cold outside, when my motor is cold it missis only while its idling..but runs fine when you gas it up and when the engine warms up. right now I'm using the normal plugs. should I step up to a hotter plugs for colder climate? hopefully that would cure the missing... thanks for input

Pull a couple of plugs >If there brown or tan your plugs are correct > If there black or sutted there to cold > Cold or hot they spark the same > Heat range has to do with how fast the plugs transfer the retained heat from firing to the heads > What your discribing leads me to think you have leaking plug wires > That is spark is escaping through the insulation > One thing you can try is starting the COLD engine

in total darkness with hood open and visualy inspect for escaping spark > Cold damp wires have far more tendency to do this then warm dry ones > Worth a shot > Good luck

Pump spray bottle with H20 at night. Squirt it around the wires. If you see chain lightning ..you need wires. The engine may appear to run normally when warm.
