There's affluent folks here on BITOG.

A few people even own personal aircraft. Its their money to be spent if that's what make them happy.

There's one BITOG member with a Ferrari, Lamborghini and RR Bentley in Florida.... I forget his name but obviously he's crazy wealthy (1% er).

School systems of the 1950s-1970s had churches attached and stressed helping others, was in-bred with that-type training growing up and also inside our home.

Never purchased things beyond our needs financially. Basic stuff purchased new..... that's it. I'm 66 and still doing it that way.
Please don't tell me Porsches are a better investment. I am 1st and last owner of my vehicles.

It is more than possible to own nice things and still help others as well as invest.

If what you do makes you happy that's wonderful. For others, driving a fun car makes them happy, having a cottage makes them happy, having a plane may make them happy, travelling the world makes them happy. Some people are fortunate enough to be able to do all of those things.

If my father decided to go buy a Porsche tomorrow I would clap him on the back and tell him to enjoy himself. He's about your age, has amassed a significant amount of wealth, is extraordinarily generous and he deserves to be able to do whatever he wants with his money without judgement.

You may not understand it, but you don't need to. The only thing you need to understand is that what makes you happy may not be what works for others and that these things are not mutually exclusive.

That'd be Dr. Haas, he's a plastic surgeon.

I think it's funny when people assume that those that own nice cars spend all their money on their possessions and do not donate to the less fortunate or are otherwise misers.

Must be a sad life.

Would you like to check it out for me?

It is not too far away from one of our hospitals. How quickly are you looking to move on it?

If someone reports back that it's in good shape and drives good I'll put a hold on it and drive up this weekend and buy it.

Glad I could help out a fellow BITOGer. Posted my thoughts of the car in the the Phoenix thread, I don't think OP will mind. It was a good learning lesson for me in how photos online can conceal a car's true condition.

If you don't have that type of disposable income....then with all due respect you just don't understand.

Why would you make a large purchase based on what a total stranger tells you?
I know I won't.

That looks like a ton of vehicle for the money. I only have some small experience with Porsche (driven 2 boxters and 1 cayman) but they are surely awesome machines. I've come to appreciate alot about the 911 lately. One thing that I love is the size of the car hasn't gotten out of hand.

It looks like the Panamera has the 7 speed PDK. I don't think I've ever heard a bad thing about them in reviews.

Also to whoever said this was an extravagant purchase... sure maintenance will be higher than something else, but it will retain its value way better at this point than a brand new $34k crossover. Also the average price of a new car in the US is $36,270 according to KBB. Again, this Porsche isn't new but will depreciate much less than a $35k crossover or the like.

I'm just curious, but do you ever sprain your shoulder when you are furiously patting yourself on the back? Regardless, arrogance and condescension is always such an attractive combination.

I'm on BMW number eleven, so feel free to wave your sanctimonious and self-righteous finger at me as well..

It's just another pathetic example of sour grapes syndrome raised to the infinite power...

Who said he was buying it just to show off? I don't own a Corvette to show off, I own it because I love driving it! It might not make financial sense to some people, but it gives me great pleasure to get behind the wheel of it. There are many times where I'll just jump in it and go for a 2 hour drive with no destination in mind, I just want to be behind the wheel on a nice sunny day with the wind in my hair and the tunes cranked up.

He earned the money, so why not reap the benefits, even if it's something that others might find impractical?

You just don't understand; if Triple_Se7en chooses to live in automotive purgatory then you should have to as well...

I just don't understand your point.

The guy wants to buy a Porsche.

He didn't say that he was going to run over homeless people with it....so why all the sanctimony?

Who cares if it's beyond his needs?

Have you ever eaten anything other than gruel? Taken a vacation? Traveled? Bought a house?

Those things are beyond your needs - what point are you trying to make with "I only buy cars that meet my needs"?

Fine for you, and the avid readers of Consumer Reports, but this is a primarily car forum, there are a lot of us that own cars for fun, as a hobby. That's not a sin.

Pretty much this. I enjoy driving it and playing with all the features the Mercedes has. The only annoying thing is every once in a while people end up starring at you/car and then I wonder why they're looking and then it dawns on me, oh yeah, I'm driving a Mercedes. It was easier driving a Ford, no one looked. I know someone else with an Audi S7, she says the same thing, it bothered her so much she had to get to get the windows tinted. She had a Subaru before that and it didn't happen before. She owns a small business and I'm going to guess she's probably worth a million plus as she also owns a couple homes and rental property.

And this.

OP here, just wanted to say thanks to all those who supported me. I can't add anymore to what's been said except that if you love to drive cars you need to take a long spin in a Porsche, they are incredible!

Oh, and this cars sticker price was $132K...
