Should I not be using a M1 filter?

Ever since the first time I changed my oil, I've used Mobil 1 oil filters. I assumed that the extra filtration was reducing wear, not that its restriction was increasing it. The engine in question is a Ford 302 (small mains) that sees 5000 rpm max. Would I be better off with something like a Supertech or Motorcraft filter, and would the change necessitate a shorter OCI? I typically ran 8000+ on the M1 filter.
