Should I cash this check or frame it for stupidity?

Well, it was sent by FedEx so there is a record that the driver handed me the envelope.
Probably cost them $50 to send you 1 penny.

Corporate/banking stupidity at its finest.

Given my above post, your example suggests to me that they send you $30 normal 1st class mail, explain it was cheaper than FEDEX. Win/Win.

Imagine the tens of thousands wasted sending small FEDEX checks to people. Inane and insane.

Almost as silly:
I had a savings account in a local credit union. The trivial interest it earned was automatically credited to the balance each time it matured. A few weeks ago it was swallowed by a larger credit union. For reasons unclear, they ended the automatic crediting of interest, and started mailing me a check for $0.33 every month. I exchanged several e-mails with one of their reps getting that straightened out. The good news is that the new outfit pays a respectable interest rate.
